Food Drives and Off-Site Cooking Projects

We have compiled a list of groceries and supplies that would be most helpful as we work towards our mission of combating hunger and creating opportunity.

  • Frozen turkeys for our holiday meals
  • Boxes of individual-sized packs of nutritious snacks for Healthy Returns, our children’s nutrition program.
  • Boxes of muffin mix
  • Assorted spices (bulk size preferred)
  • Homemade trail mix, granola bars, quick bread, sandwiches and vegetables for our Healthy Returns clients. These snacks must feed at least 100 people.
  • Travel-sized toiletries for clients of our street-outreach program, First Helping
  • Winter socks, gloves and long johns for our First Helping clients
  • Can openers for our 300 weekly volunteers to use in the kitchen
  • Five dollar gift cards to Safeway, Giant or Target

While we appreciate all in-kind donations, we encourage you to target your drive or cooking project to one of the above items.

You can drop off donations from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays or from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. We also are able to pick up donations from many nearby locations, but we prefer at least three day’s advance notice.

If you have questions or would like to schedule a pick up, please contact Stephen Kendall at 202-400-2804.
