FareStart’s
“Futures Rising” Capital Campaign is on target to raise $8
million to purchase and renovate a new home for its job training program.
This new building, located at the corner of 7th & Westlake in
downtown Seattle, has already been identified and purchased, and will
include bigger kitchens, more classroom space, and an on-site restaurant.
Meanwhile, fundraising efforts have pressed
on, with more than $6.5 million raised for this project as of May 2005,
including grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Kresge
Foundation, as well as numerous generous individuals and corporations in
the Puget Sound Area.
FareStart’s new facility will enable the
organization to double the number of homeless men and women it serves each
year, while also allowing for a significant increase in self-generated
business revenue—all of which goes back into the program to support the
services FareStart provides. Bottom line: This new home will give
FareStart the capacity it grow its businesses and better serve the
community.
“Futures Rising” will run through the early
part of 2006, with renovation at the building beginning in mid-2005.
FareStart plans to move into its
new home in 2006.
