The Campus Kitchens Project

Volunteers and students produce thousands of meals for their communities by making efficient use of available kitchen space and unused food.

The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) is a network of student-run community kitchens on twelve college campuses throughout the United States.

Student Powered Hunger Relief

CKP engages students to prepare unserved food from school dining halls and deliver meals to those in need.  CKP creates opportunity by providing a Culinary Job Training program which offers skills-based training to unemployed adults.

Based on the model of its parent organization, DC Central Kitchen, CKP is a resource-efficient concept that provides immediate relief while promoting long-term solutions.

Leadership Development

For students, The Campus Kitchens Project provides leadership development through training and direct experience. Students run the whole show, from planning the meals, to organizing the volunteers, to delivering the food.

Aiming to foster a new generation of innovative leaders, we empower students to fight hunger by teaching them to strategically use what's already there:

  • on-campus kitchen space
  • unused food
  • volunteers

Students gain critical leadership experience as they plan meals and coordinate kitchen operations.

Locations

CKP has opened twelve Campus Kitchens that together have harnessed the power of over 5,000 volunteers to deliver more than 500,000 meals.  CKP is headquartered in Washington DC, with Campus Kitchens located in:

  • Milwaukee
  • Minneapolis
  • New Orleans
  • Spokane
  • Mankato MN
